General Care and Maintenance for Hardwood Flooring

  • Keep a doormat inside and outside entrances to minimize tracked-in grit.

  • Remove remaining grit or dirt by vacuum or dust mop.

  • Use wood floor Cleaner and Refresher to keep flooring looking like new.

  • Never use water on a hardwood floor.

  • Wipe spills immediately with a dry cloth or rag.

  • These steps apply for most all wood floors.

Protecting your new Hardwood Flooring

  1. Excessive amounts of water and wood don't mix - Wood is a Natural material that swells when it absorbs water and shrinks when it dries.  Wipe up spills immediately to keep your floor unmarked, smooth and level. Never use water to clean or mop your floor.

  2. Avoid spike heels - Spike heels are damaging to hardwood flooring they strike a floor with more force per inch than an elephant's foot.  Spike heels in general are especially harmful to your floor. We recommend felt pads under all furniture that sits on wood floors.

  3. Grit is one of the biggest dangers to your floor - Tracked - in dirt is like sandpaper on hardwood flooring.  Use a walk off or entry rug at every doorway entrance to catch dirt and grit also vacuum or shake out regularly.
